Weekend adventures

This weekend started off not the best but then became much better. I took Friday off work because a friend was supposed to come into town to visit me for my birthday (which is next week) but a few days prior she had to reschedule her visit to January because her mom got covid (her mom lives with her). She's still testing negative but didn't want to risk it since she's around her mom a lot (her mom is also doing ok, the symptoms have passed at this point).
I was bummed but decided to still keep Friday as a day off so I could do adult errands, in this case renewing my car tags and early voting for a runoff election, since I do not want to think about the lines at the polls on Tuesday.
On Thursday night I got hit with the beginnings of a vertigo attack, but I popped two meclizine and went to sleep at 9pm and thankfully when I woke up I felt fine. I did sleep in a bit because meclizine makes me super tired, but around 10am I got up and drove towards the county tag office. I hadn't gotten my emission test done yet but there are a few places nearby which advertise emissions and I've used them in the past so I wasn't concerned (I was wrong).
The first emission place I went to, the guy tried but he couldn't figured out how to get my car into gas mode (I have a hybrid), and he recommended going to the jiffy lube down the street (he tried for about 20 min before he gave up). The good thing about jiffy lube is that there is no appointment needed since it's first come first serve the bad thing is I was 7th come, and didn't feel like waiting.
I continued driving down the street (past the tag office at this point) and saw a big sign that said Emissions Testing and pulled into there. The parking lot was empty except for one car but there was a garage with an emissions sign on it so I went into the building which was empty except for construction equipment and white paint. This probably should have been a sign, but as I went in I heard a phone ringing and I figured where there's a phone, there's a person and walked down the white painted corridor with no windows in search of this phone. After turning the corner a few times and finding nothing except more hallway I was like....I'm going to leave now. When I came outside, the owner of the other car was there and he said this place had been closed for a while but they never took the sign down. He did say there was an emissions testing place two street lights down but when I drove down there I didn't see anything.
At this point I gave up and called the Toyota dealership to make an appointment for an emissions test during the afternoon. I then drove to the library near me figuring I could early vote and check some books out except the parking lot was so full people were parking on the street and the line was over an hour long. I figured the line would get shorter later in the day since people had Friday night plans (once again, I was wrong)
I did get my emissions test done at 3 and then there was no line at the tag renewal place so that was nice. They were doing early voting there too since it was a county building and at this point the line was 2 hours long and I realized it wasn't going to get shorter, so I chatted with the other people in line and read fic on my phone during the interminable wait.
I did succeed in both tasks I wanted to do so I felt very accomplished even if it took literally the entire day.
Friday night was really fun - after I got home, one of my fandom friends who lives nearby came over (with her adorable dog) and we did a virtual hangout with the friend who had to cancel her trip. We ate takeout and watched Bad Buddy and it was nice (not for my cat who kept guard from the safety of my room but for everyone else lol).
Saturday was super chill - did laundry, cleaned, played with the cat, read a little bit of my book club book, and just relaxed. And now later today I have another virtual hangout planned to watch My Country: The New Age which has been on my list for forever and that's going to be fun too!
