I can't believe it's been like 5 months since my last post. I don't know where the time went...2023 kicking my ass
It's been nonstop work deadlines since Jan 3, truly crazy, but last week was my last project deadline until June so I feel like I can finally breathe again. I'm still fully remote but I did have to physically go back into the office during certain times and it was exhausting - reminded me how much I hate open floor plans, there is literally no place to hide from anyone and take a moment. I did catch up with some coworkers I really like and that was nice.
2023 has also been the year of vertigo attacks which has been really fun (not). My doctor doesn't have advice for me other than to figure out what is triggering them and avoid that trigger, which is extremely difficult to do, although I did confirm dried fruit is probably one of them. I've had to take about 40 hours worth of sick leave from work between Jan-March because when they hit I literally can't do anything other than lie down with my eyes closed. My boss asked me what was going on since I was taking a day off about every 10 days because of it. I do feel a little lucky because my friend who also has Ménière's disease has vertigo attacks that last multiple days and mine normally pass within 24 hours. And they seem to have tapered off in April, so fingers crossed!
Fandom-wise, I have not really kept up with anything. I've fallen to the fringes of MDZS/Untamed for sure. I've seen people lamenting that not much new fic has come out recently but my to read backlog continues to grow since I haven't had as much time for fic. I just queued up my last fic rec post for tumblr at the end of May, and then all my fic recs from twitter will be transferred over. I'm debating whether I should do new recs for Nov/Dec of 2022 and finish the year, since I only made it through October when I dropped out of twitter. Writing the recs is actually really time consuming, but I do enjoy it. Just depends if I have the energy for it.
I've also fallen head first into kinnporsche, which is so funny because when I first watched the show I enjoyed it but wasn't super into it and then a week later I realized I couldn't stop thinking about it. I re-watched since then and am now well and truly hooked.
Separately, I joined a dance class and have been having a blast! I have no sense of rhythm and purposefully do not look at myself in the mirror but the teacher is really enthusiastic about everyone having a good time and the other people in the class are really nice. She does the classes in three month increments, learning choreography to a set list of songs, and then after three months you can renew and learn dances to a new batch of songs.
I have a trip coming up in May that I'm very excited for, and looking forward to summer in general. The sun shining later in the day really does make a difference in life outlook!

Date: 2023-04-29 01:37 pm (UTC)That’s a bummer to hear about the drop off in fic. I wonder, depending on which corner of fandom is saying that, if it might be there’s an event eating up people’s time? I know bottomji big bang has basically stopped me from writing anything new since like November (except for bottomji anyway). Then again, it could just be the natural drift that occurs with fandoms as they mature. I feel so disconnected from the fandom since leaving Twitter and then… 2023 lol, so I haven’t even been around to notice.
Hearing your thoughts, I wonder if I should give kinnporsche another shot. I liked the first few eps well enough, but wasn’t gripped enough to keep watching.
Your dance class sounds lovely and I hope your trip is super enjoyable. You deserve it.

Date: 2023-04-29 07:55 pm (UTC)Kinnporsche on first watch gave me intense second hand embarrassment, I think I skipped at least 50% of eps 1 and 2 and watched some later ones through my fingers. And the couple dynamic is very different from obsessed/in love wangxian which is why I didn't think it would stick but something in it pinged my fandom brain and got me by the end of the show.
I hope you're doing well!! Sounds like 2023 has been a trial for you too - take care of yourself <333
